Following the first edition of PRESS, a site-specific performance in the old Gazette building, ORMAO Dance Company presents PREPRESS. Last spring, through choreographic action, live music and video projections, PRESS explored the buildings environs and the loss of labor, specters in an abandoned building.  PREPRESS remembers the heyday of the newspaper industry and revivifies a time when pressmen and reporters were essential to our knowledge of current events. The pressman was an exacting, highly skilled craftsman and the journalist synthesized fact and opinion for the avid reader of the daily news. Long before the digital age, the presses moved with lyric grace and precision with no room for error. The social life around the newspaper was at once glamorous and frenetic. PREPRESS is both nostalgic and uncompromising in its evocation of the newspapers glory days.
