at 75 Boardman Place in San Francisco, CA
Screen Test for an Evil Clone is the first performance by Essoe during his autumn residency at The Performance Art Institute.
With an hourglass-shaped boxing ring, sacks filled with corn syrup, clay statues, and a superhero costume, Jordan Essoe addresses the conceit of the doppelganger through the idiom of the digital age instincts to crop, compress, and copy.
Essoe's interdisciplinary practice includes performance, painting, drawing, photography, video, and sculpture, and addresses themes of desire, memory, and containment.
His work has been exhibited internationally at venues including Exit Art, New York; Scope Miami; TART, San Francisco; Headlands Center for the Arts, Sausalito, California; Swarm, Oakland; The Palm Springs Desert Museum; Chapel Hill Museum; African American Museum; Meneer de Wit Gallery, Amsterdam; Ha'Kibbutz Gallery, Tel Aviv; National Gallery of Contemporary Art, San Jose, Costa Rica; and Literaturwerkstatt, Berlin.
In 2007 he co-founded the Humane Slaughter Acts Performance Festival in California.
His projects have been documented by NPR, Artslant, Art Practical, The San Francisco Chronicle, Artweek, Stretcher, Rhizome, and NYArts Magazine.
