The latest vitally-important film to explore the disintegration of modern urban life, Detropia looks at crumbling buildings, foreclosed homes, and loss of same in Detroit. The city's deterioration is seen from buses and subways to cultural institutions like opera (which saw its budget shrink drastically as corporate donors left town for cheaper labor in China and Mexico), as directors Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady look for answers and infuse their film with a good dose of humor and even some hope. Including interviews with artists who chose to make their studios in the snow, a union leader trying valiantly to save his members' jobs, and a struggling club owner on a tour of the Detroit Auto Show.
