Trouble on the Border
The conflicts of the American Civil War are often portrayed with huge battles of epic scale. Yet its most profound effect was on the lives of everyday families, struggling to survive.
"Trouble on the Border," portrayed by the Puppetry Arts Institute, and presented by Watkins Mill Associatin, offers a brief glimpse of the Civil War through the eyes of the youth of a small working farm in western Missouri. Events unfold as Union General Order No. 11 is issued an 1863 order that stirred destruction and fired flames of conflict that resonate today.
The program includes a marionette performance, a guided tour of the Watkins Mill Historic Site grounds and Civil War letter-reading, and a puppetry workshop, where participants will create a puppet to take home. Content is appropriate for children in fourth grade or higher.
