2012 Ruth Page Award

The 2012 Ruth Page Award Committee is pleased to honor Sid Smith with this year's Award. As a champion of Chicago dance and dance coverage in the media for well over 30 years, he is someone who continues to write, review and expand Chicago's dance coverage. Without the dance writer -that person who is the observer and recorder- so much of what is created in dance would go unnoticed.

"Ruth Page always felt that a vibrant dance environment was comprised of many parts -dancers, musician, artistic collaborators, audiences, supporters and, yes, writers and critics," explains Venetia Stifler, Executive and Artistic Director of The Ruth Page Foundation. "A Knowledgeable writer and critic of dance, she felt, could often hold a mirror to the art form and provide meaningful insights. In Sid, not only do we have an excellent writer, but he is someone who always wants to know the inside story and who's quest for deeper understanding of the art of dance supports us all."
