Climate Change and the Monarch Butterfly Migration Symposium
Friday, October 21st, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM: Climate Change and the Monarch Butterfly Migration Symposium at the Pearl Studio. $10 PER TICKET. LIMITED SEATING. Tickets go on sale September 22nd at 12:00AM. Dan Goodgame, VP of Corporate Communications for Rackspace, will moderate a timely discussion with the distinguished panelists listed below:
Dr. Cuauhtémoc Saenz Romero is a forester from Michoacán, Mexico who proposes moving the Monarch roosting sites higher up the mountain to save them from the impacts of climate change.
Catalina Trail is a citizen scientist who graced the cover of National Geographic in 1976 (when she was known as Cathy Aguado) for "discovering" the Monarch roosting sites in Michoacán, Mexico. She and her then husband, Kenneth Brugger, led scientists to the sites, and the news rocked the butterfly world. She currently lives in Austin, TX.
Dr. Katharine Hayhoe, director of the Climate Science Center at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, is both an evangelical Christian and an atmospheric scientist. She coauthored (with her husband Andrew Farley) the book A Climate for Change: Global Warming Facts for Faith-Based Decisions.
Cathy Downs is a citizen scientist and conservation specialist for Monarch Watch in Comfort, TX. She teaches hundreds of children and adults each year about the magic and science of the Monarch butterfly migration.
