Want to learn how to work toward eliminating the cops? Want to hear how we challenge the notion that policing keeps us safe? Critical Resistance Oakland regularly offers this workshop that looks at the role and history of policing in the U.S., the way it has impacted various communities, and how people have resisted and challenged its inherent violence. This workshop also goes over how we can reduce our reliance on policing by highlighting the various ways that building up community strength and practices lead to true safety that does not depend on law enforcement.
Critical Resistance is offering this training to SURJ-Bay Area members as a way to deepen our understanding as we continue to support the movement against police terror regionally and nationally.
If you have specific access needs, please email basebuilding@surjbayarea.org, and we'll be happy to work with you to accommodate them.
SCENT FREE: We ask that guests do their best to be as scent free as possible. Please refer to this resource from the EastBay Meditation Center for more information on what that means. http://eastbaymeditation.org/accessibility/PDF/How-to-Be-Fragrance-Free-.pdf
The workshop is offered to SURJ Bay Area members. To RSVP, click through the link below. The workshop has a suggested donation of $5-$20 which will go to Critical Resistance to support their work. No one turned away for lack of funds. Contact: basebuilding@surjbayarea.org with any questions or concerns.
