Montclair Culinary Academy Knife Skills Class & Healthy Fall Feast
Good knife skills - everything from how to hold a knife properly to being able to cut like a pro -lie at the heart of all good cooking. Not only is it safer, but also it is the most efficient and effective way to work in the kitchen. Here are three good reasons why:
1.The better the dish looks, the better it tastes! As humans, we eat with our eyes and we enjoy the way that food that looks, reacting to color, shape and arrangement. 2.The more consistent you chop, the better your dish will cook! For example, unevenly chopped veggies will cook at different rates, meaning uneven results Having the correct knife skills will allow you to chop evenly. 3.Being able to chop correctly is a badge of honor! It is a badge that sends the signal that you know what you're doing in the kitchen.
This class will be a great starter class for some and a good brush up for others. It will cover how to: Correctly hold a kitchen knife Correctly hold food while cutting Avoid injuries
And will feature great tips for: Chopping kitchen staples (e.g. onions) Basic knife cuts Cutting uniformly Choosing and maintaining a knife
NOT ONLY THAT
but you'll learn while preparing a healthy seasonal three-course dinner featuring a seasonal catch of the day. Yes you'll be putting your newly learned knife skills to the test while learning how to filet a fresh fish. We will then make a tasty grain salad to go with it. This delicious meal (which we will all sit down and enjoy together) will be topped off with a dessert of caramelized fruit. Bring a bottle and your own knife if you'd prefer! Please note there are no refunds.
