Documentary Workshop
Do you have a great idea for a documentary, but no idea how to bring your idea from concept to the screen? Do you want invaluable production techniques that can make your projects more professional? This four-week course will teach you the basics of producing documentaries for television, and help make your film broadcast-quality. You will get professional guidance and instruction from international festival winner and three-time Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Ron Rudaitis. Ron has produced and directed many successful documentaries, including The Italian Americans, episodes of ESPNs SportsCentury, A Bridge Between Silence and Sound, and Farming the Future: Farm Life on Long Island, which recently received an Emmy Nomination for Best Documentary. His films have aired on over 250 public and commercial television stations throughout the country.

March 1

WEEK 1: GETTING STARTED Featuring video presentations and in-depth discussion, week one will provide an overview of what a television producer does, and the many different skills and personnel that come together to make a successful production.

March 8

WEEK 2: STAGES OF PRODUCTION Week two will feature in-depth discussion of all stages of documentary production from pre-production to post-production including: research & development, focus groups, consultants, script development, interview techniques, music and archival footage selection, location shooting, narration, transcription, editing, and more.
