TAP YOUR TROUBLES AWAY
Los Angeles, CA -- September 2016 -- In the upbeat, autobiographical musical revue Tap Your Troubles Away,  The Diane Davisson Dancers demonstrate their rhythmic skill -- and tout taps therapeutic benefits -- at the Beyond Baroque Theater in Venice, Saturday, September 17 (8pm) and Sunday, September 18 (2pm).  The unique 30-year-old troupe, comprised mainly of Baby Boomers in their fifties and sixties who have grown older together, interweaves memories and anecdotes with spirited song and dance numbers.  

In a direct dialogue with the audience we share our performing and life experiences -- good, bad, humorous and serious -- as well as what goes on before, during and after a performance, says artistic director/choreographer Davisson, adding What emerges from these tales of a tap troupe is an appreciation of lifelong friendships and the ability to cope with challenges and changing times through the creative expression that dance provides.  My greatest wish for our audience is that they leave the theatre happier and excited about their own new creative possibilities!  

A rousing song and dance production of the title tune opens the show.  On its heels are full-company tap renditions of Anything Goes, Birth of the Blues, Sing, Sing, Sing, Everything Old Is New Again, Bye Bye Blackbird, Drum Boogie, I Love a Piano and In the Mood, as well as tap solos and the rhythm-tap improvisational stylings of Mel Lewis.  Musical theatre veteran Steve Bradley (Guys and Dolls) lends his robust baritone to Oklahoma, and soprano Tina Appel musically affirms Dancing Is Everything.  Bradley and his ballroom dancer wife Ann-Marie also take a turn on the dance floor.   In an innovative tap twist on the Uptown Funk film clip, Davissons company applies her In the Mood choreography to a eclectic mix of popular past and present tunes.    

In addition to mounting shows for her tap company, actor-singer-dancer Davisson has starred in theatrical productions including Stepping Out, Anything Goes, Hotel Paradiso and Last Night of the Last Tsar; TVs Dantes Cove, the feature films Dog Tags and G.I. Jesus and various commercials.  

The Diane Davisson Dancers have toured coast-to-coast and in Brazil.  Locally in recent years they performed at the Morgan-Wixon Theatre, Miles Playhouse and Pepperdine Universitys Smothers Theatre in Malibu.  Members range in age from forties to seventies and include a college statistician, accountant, nurse, voiceover artist and real estate agent.

There is plenty of free parking for the event accessed via Pisani Place (one block northeast of and adjacent to the theatre) off of Venice Blvd, and also a lot of unrestricted street parking.
