For many of our loved ones who are dying, they wish to be at home versus a hospital. The Home Funeral Practicum is a hands on, holistic workshop that provides you the knowledge and skills to tenderly care for a loved one at death.
Our goal is to help clarify your values and personal preferences around dying and deathcare. We do so through valuable discussions - including how to work with one's thoughts, emotions and intuitions arising before the dead.
We'll have live models to practice moving, washing, dressing, casketing and holding a vigil that honours the personality of the deceased. With your personal touch, we paint and decorate cardboard caskets. Creating sacred space, soulful rituals, and meaningful ceremony are important dimensions of the workshop.
Whether you do it yourself, with a death doula, knowledgable guide, and or a funeral director (hybrid home funeral©) you'll acquire an understanding of Alberta's provincial legalities, procedures and permits, universal health precautions and the ethics of the 'deathcaring' movement.
We believe reviving old fashioned family and community-led, home vigils has far reaching, positive benefits for our children, ourselves and the culture at large: greater peace, enhanced connectivity to and appreciation for life!
