Poetry & Coffee: sunday, august 21, 2016 | Food Poems & A Potluck Picnic
A special Poetry & Coffee summer picnic at Socrates Sculpture Park!
Bring a poem about FOOD! Bring a poem about greens or beans or nectarines! Bring a poem about eating, dining, or breaking bread. Bring a poem about people who don't have enough food to eat or people who struggle with food in some way. Bring a poem about feeding people, feeding the world, feeding your own soul. Interpret the theme broadly. There is no wrong poem. All are welcome! **The only rule is that the poem cannot be your own work.**
Poetry & Coffee is a simple concept. It's a group of people who get together over food and drinks, each bringing a poem of their choice to read and discuss.
We read, we talk. Simple as that. And that is where the simplicity ends, as each Poetry & Coffee gathering takes on a life of its own and consistently becomes magical beyond all expectation.
Tickets are free but you must have one to attend. Event starts at 1pm and goes until we discuss all the poems and eat all the food or the sun goes down, whichever comes first. Feel free to exit whenever you choose, but please come on time for 1pm. We like to start as a group and introduce ourselves to one another.
Two types of tickets:
Bring a dish for the picnic/Bring a poem to share: You bring a food item to contribute to the potluck picnic. You also bring a poem to read to the group and bring photocopies to share and participate in the discussion of the poem.
Discussion Only/Not bringing a food item: You participate in the discussion of the poems. You can also just listen, if you wish. And, of course, eat with us.
If you are bringing food, please make sure you also bring any serving utensils you will need for your dish. I will supply plates, plastic cutlery, cups, ice, water, and napkins.
IN THE EVENT OF RAIN, YOU WILL BE CONTACTED 48 HOURS BEFORE THE EVENT IF THE EVENT IS CANCELLED.

"I have tried to remember throughout that poetry is made by flesh-and-blood human beings. It is a bloody art. It lives on a human scale and thrives when it is passed from hand to hand." - Edward Hirsch
If you reserve a ticket and cancel without giving at least 48-hour's notice, you will not be able to reserve tickets to future events. Our apologies for the severity. We are trying to prevent no-shows from taking the seats from people who genuinely want to attend.
