Kelli Brown is back with another beautiful Flamenco Dance with Live Music by MahaVia.

****MahaVia is a collaboration between Julianna La Patita Thomas and Derren Davidavich Crosby. Inspired by the beauty and mystery that exists all around us and possessed by wanderlust, we live as full time nomadic artists. Nature is our muse and music is what we love. We follow the seasons, pursing our affair with travelling the American west, which were fortunate enough to call home, wintering in the Southwest and spending the warmer months in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho.
We perform traditional pieces from Cuba and Mexico, with a few odds and ends thrown in, but Spanish Flamenco is at the heart of our show. Using music, dance, and visual art we seek to offer an experience that inspires and captivates the depths of human emotion.
MahaVia translates to magic life, mystic path, sacred way, and were doing our best to follow our bliss and hope to inspire everyone to follow their true heart's passion.

Julianna 'LaPatita'
Dancer, singer, costume designer, seamstress, artist- her passions know no bounds.. Seduced by flamenco at an early age, she sold everything she owned and moved to New York City to pursue her true calling. Her time in New York was spent soaking up as much flamenco as possible and studying with Andrea Del Conte, Barbara Martinez, Carmela Greco, and Jose Galvan. New York was good, but the birth-place of duende called her like a pulsing beacon in the night. With much encouragement from Ms. Del Conte, her continued flamenco study has taken her to Granada, Spain in 2006 to study under Marie Carmen Guerrero and Melena Sessano, then to California with La Fibi and guitarist David Fitzsimmons. She returned to Boise in April of 2009 from Sevilla, Spain where she studied for 7 months with master teachers Juan del Gastor, Concha Vargas, Juan Polvillo, and Paqui del Rio. She has been performing and teaching flamenco since 2005 and continues to study with her teachers in Portland, New York and Spain.

Derren Davidavich Crosby
Derren grew up playing guitar and bass in a collection of terrible young-man bands, moved to Portland, OR and played in other less-terrible, but certainly not more memorable groups, gave up and started studying classical guitar. Several months into that, his teacher introduced him to flamenco guitar and that was that.
Two years later, back in Boise, he meets Julianna, realizes he doesnt know nearly as much as he thought he did about flamenco (actually, the queasy realization hits that he doesnt really know anything at all about flamenco), but luckily she is friends with a fabulous guitarist back in Portland, named Mark Ferguson, who Derren calls and ends up practically living with for weeks on end while he slowly begins to wrap his befuddled mind around this thing called flamenco. Five years later, a couple more crash courses in Latin music and percussion, and here we are, living on the road, playing and even (oh so humbly) teaching. Oh, and painting, Derren went kind of crazy over painting, so he does that a lot, too.

Sayoko Knode is making her BDC choreographic debut with the band Critter Soup.

****Sayoko dedicates her classical ballet and contemporary dance education to create works that are musical, creative, eloquent, and meaningful. Through her craft, she aims to stretch, educate, and inspire young and professional dancers while presenting stimulating and memorable choreography.  Her choreography has been presented by universities, professional contemporary and ballet companies, ballet schools, and competitors of the Youth America Grand Prix.

****Charles Anderson"s Orphans from "Arcane:  A Tale of All Hallows' Eve" will be performed by Ballet Idaho's Academy.  This trio brought down the house in San Fransisco last October.

****Charles Anderson is the Artistic Director of Company C Contemporary Ballet  - Anderson danced with the New York City Ballet from 1985  1993, where he worked with Jerome Robbins, Peter Martins and many other notable choreographers. Anderson began studying dance at an early age and later trained at and received full scholarships to the San Francisco Ballet School, the Joffrey Ballet School, the American Ballet Theatre School, and the School of American Ballet. He began his choreographic career while still a dancer with the New York City Ballet. In 1990 he co-founded Ballet, Inc. in New York with long time friends Patrick Corbin and John Selya. He later co-founded Company C Contemporary Ballet in 2002 with Elizabeth Reed, where he currently serves as Artistic Director. Andersons works are included in the repertories of professional dance companies throughout the country. He has been a prominent ballet teacher in the Bay area and has been a guest teacher for Smuin Ballet, Matthew Bourne, Oakland Ballet, Twyla Tharp Dance, Hubbard Street Dance, the North Carolina School of the Arts, and the Henny JurriĆ«ns Foundation in Amsterdam. In addition to his work as a dancer, choreographer and teacher, Anderson has served on the board of governors for the American Guild of Musical Artists, created costumes for the New York City Ballets Diamond Project, been an adjudicator and instructor for the Bob Fosse Scholarship Program, and served as a panelist for the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Grant. He is the recipient of the 2014 Live Blessay Lifetime Achievement Award and the 2015 Izzie Award for Outstanding Achievement in Restaging/Revival/Reconstruction.

***Idaho Regional Ballet will perform Lauren Edson's "Waiting Still". In May of 2016 Idaho Regional Ballet was named an Honors Company and the piece performed Waiting Still was nationally recognized as the best choreography of the festival.

***Rebecca Barnaco makes her BDC musical debut singing "Falling Slowly" for Artistic Director Frank Affrunti's debut piece for BDC "High Heels on the Table".

***Marla Hansen, Artistic Director of Idaho Dance Theatre restages 2 pieces from her ballet to Frim Fram Four!

***Katie Ponozzo - Artistic Director of Off Center Dance Project debuts a section from their new Halloween Ballet to locally composed music.  As always, OCD brings a new perspective to all their work and have been a true staple of BDC since it's inception.

Lastly, we are thrilled to bring back Project Flux's

"navigate.auditory.sustem.alignment"

"The choreography was structured improv, a signature of Sakolsky-Basquills, that was dynamic and fascinating. The duet between Stevens and and Sakolsky-Basquill was breathtaking as she shifted around his body, never touching the ground.

The final section with Jenkins, Russell and Sakolsky-Basquill, was mind-blowing, a physical feat not to be missed." - Dana Oland - The Idaho Statesman
