Private Dinner: Wild Plum @ MING Studios

MING Studios and Wild Plum Events will host an evening of delicious food and an intimate engagement to the works 'Not Somewhere Else, But Here' by MING artist-in-resident, Wytske van Keulen. Limited ticket event.

Wytske van Keulen (b. 1982 in Bergen op Zoom, Netherlands) portrays people who, for disparate reasons, live their lives as outsiders. Her distinctive method of documenting at once plain and empathetic nevertheless resists the stubborn tendency toward marginalization, whether emanating from society or from solitude. Both movements are revealed as a symptom of existential helplessness. On closer inspection, the position of the outsider can seldom be attributed to either voluntary withdrawal or imposed exclusion. It is necessary to breach this dichotomy and consider the existing condition in all its complexity and subtlety.

Van Keulen has created a new extension to her photographic series entitled 'Stick Holding Branch'. The series focuses on individuals who deliberately chose their own path in life, setting aside societys demanding expectations, following their ideals. Van Keulen captures images of her subjects living spaces and private ways of life, providing the viewer an intimate glimpse into their personal culture. In Not Somewhere Else, But Here Van Keulen combined her own slide works and artist books with a selection of works by others, researching the connection between maker and subject within the documentary field.
