Discovering the Dragon in Art
Discovering the Dragon in Art You may never have seen a dragon in the flesh (unless you're very lucky) yet they are something we all recognise at once, enshrined in art as part of our visual landscape. This Illustrated talk looks at the history of dragons as we have visualised them, as real creatures in Mediaeval Books of Beasts, as symbols of the Devil, as creatures just waiting for a hero to slay them and variously as denizens of earth, air, fire and water. This fabulous array of fearsome beasties across centuries and cultures prompts the inevitable question why do they mean so much to us?
