We Ben-Jamin Music Festival 2016
For those of you that may not already know Benji's story, he was born on May 20, 2015 and was diagnosed that night with VACTERL, an acronym that indicates the areas of the body that may contain birth defects. Ben's conditions are as follows:
Vertebrae: tethered spinal cord
Anal: imperforate anus (no anal opening, rectum connected to urethera)
Cardiac: Tetrology of Fallot, with vascular ring
Trachea: Severe stenosis
Esophagus: failure to thrive
Renal: renal reflux
He also has a paralyzed diaphragm on the right side from nerve damage during open-heart surgery resulting in his right lung being partially collapsed. His lungs are also the size of a newborns and all areas of the lungs are severely narrow.
Ben is receiving the best possible care and treatment at UCSF Benioff Hospital. As of June 2016, he will have completed six surgeries in just over a year; colostomy, two analplasties, open heart surgery, spinal cord release and colostomy takedown.
As you can imagine, the medical bills are as big as the miracles they are performing! To help Ben and his family with some of the costs, and to celebrate the progress that has been made so far with Bens health, we are holding a musical fundraising event We Ben-Jamin Music Festival.
