THE SHOW: A Celebration of Queer Voices
In its fourth season of creating innovating and engaging dance theatre, Reject Dance Theatre and The Dance Complex present... THE SHOW: A Celebration of Queer Voices. This production results in the culmination of a year of deep collaboration, featuring three new pieces: two from the NYC company and one from the Boston company. Each piece continues to explore the themes that are foundation to the company's mission of challenging preconceived notions of dance and performance. In conjunction with Bostons Pride Month, THE SHOW represents a diverse body of work meant to challenge and question our cultural understanding of gender, sexuality, and human behavior.

New work includes: Spring (in progress) choreographed by Stephen Ursprung set to the Spring movement of Max Richter's recomposition of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons; Untitled - Version 3 (2016), a collaboratively choreographed offering by the NYC company; and Something To Say, a collaboratively created solo work by Stephanie Simpson and composer Tawnie Olson commissioned by the Women Composers Festival of Hartford. The program also features a restaging of Stephen Ursprungs 2012 work Terminal 24, which explores the idea of finding human connections in transient spaces through a queer lens.

Also included in THE SHOW are queer artists Matthew Cumbie and Mat Elder. Cumbie, a Resident Artist with Dance Exchange, presents Growing Our Own Gardens, a collaborative interdisciplinary piece created with queer artists Tyler French, Jessica Hale, Sam Horning, and Darryl Pilate. NYC/DC based artist Mat Elder, a fellow graduate of the Smith College MFA program, presents We Live for the Crows, a duet in which two men explore whether invested time and commitment outweighs the immediate impulse to leave.

Reject Dance Theatre is a contemporary modern dance company founded by Smith College alumni Rebecca Hite Teicheira, Stephanie Simpson, and Stephen Ursprung after completing their Masters of Fine Arts degrees in 2012. Founded upon a mutual commitment to collaboration and shared artistry, RDT serves as both the artistic playground and educational platform for its three directors.

Reject Dance Theatre is based in New York City and Boston and has performed in a variety of venues and festivals across the country including the MixMatch Dance Festival, Los Angeles, CA; Built on Stilts Festival, Marthas Vineyard, MA; Triskelion Arts in Brooklyn, NY; New Britain Museum of American Art, New Britain, CT; Trinity Rep Theater,  Providence, RI; the Dance Complex, Cambridge, MA; and Boston Center for the Arts, Boston, MA.
