SPB Student Spring Showcase 2016
Before the curtain rises at the ballet it takes roughly 8 to 10 years of training to become a professional ballet dancer. Simply leaping and turning are not enough. Ballet is an art that defies gravity to lift its audience and make seemingly ordinary movement extraordinary.
Our students from ages 4-18 have worked all year and would like to share their accomplishments with you in this mixed repertoire program. Younger students will be presenting American Quilt, a collection of pieces set to the music of Aaron Copland. The upper level dancers will present Graduation Ball, an exuberant ballet about a Viennese finishing school set to the music of Johann Strauss after the choreography of David Lichine. Flirtations, exuberant dances, and a secret romance ensue. The program will feature both classical as well as modern dance.
The Young Dancer program is 60 minutes without intermission.
The School program is approximately 90 minutes and includes one intermission.
