Even the title, India/Seattle feels like a story on its own. Victorias Mike Edel couldnt have named his sophomore release more poetically.
Part of growing a little bit older, a little bit wiser is the awareness that comes inside growing spaces. Nearing thirty, on the exhaust of a brutal four year touring schedule, Edel settled inside these spaces to create his finest work yet. Theres a quiet here, even in the literal spaces in the record that speak loudly.
Theres something about the way Edel presents personal experiences in a way that project universal understandings. Love and beauty, pain and confusion, the knowledge that all precious things are only precious because they can be lost. It feels a little bit like growing up - like the moment when everything that felt so close as a young person is all of a sudden so far away. Its the comfort in finding that you arent alone. Theres a humanity in these discoveries, and listening to India/Seattle feels like watching Edel discover it for himself, and the product is a little bit of each of us.
With the soulful vocals ofRay LaMontagne, the catchy lyrics ofJack Johnson, and the powerful music ofMumford and Sonsandthe Revivalists, Lance Kinnairds Bright Nights incorporates everything that we love about popular alternative music. While keeping the instrumentation largely natural and acoustic, Lances music still manages to incorporate many of the best sounds of new music today and pulls you in with catchy lyrics that will have you singing his tunes all day long.
Ignoring every opportunity to cut corners in the recording process, Lance pulled from his favorite hip hop bandthe Rootsby demanding every instrument be recorded live, without the use of digital instrumentation. This mentality shines when the songs are brought to life on stage, whether performed solo, duo, or by a full band.
