Creative Sector Summit: Hood Huggers Tour
The Asheville Area Art Council's 2016 Creative Sector Summit is pleased to partner with Hood Huggers on Saturday, April 9th to offer two interactive tours.
About Hood Huggers Tour: Hood Tours is an interactive tour focusing on Ashevilles African American resilient history and future in the arts, environmentalism and entrepreneurship. The tour visits historically African American neighborhoods with existing and active green spaces, art, and grassroots initiatives. Hood Tours is a social enterprise that provides business training opportunities and jobs for young people while helping to spark more grassroots economic development in these resilient communities.
About DeWayne Barton, Founder & CEO of Hood Huggers: DeWayne Barton (B-Love), Founder & CEO of Hood Huggers International, is a sculptor and poet who combines his creative practice with community activism. A native of Asheville, NC, Barton grew up in Washington, D.C. and is a Gulf War Veteran. He is the author of two books of poetry, Urban Nightmare Silent Screams and Return to Burton Street, and has been involved in community improvement and youth development for over 20 years.
