I Am Woman is a unique collaboration of stories, poetry, song, dance and music - a testament to spirit and courage.
African American women have journeyed through conditions of cruelties so horrible, so bizarre, that they have had to re-invent themselves. In order to survive, they had to find safety and sanctity inside of themselves: they had to laugh at the impossible, fight for what they believed to be right, pray for the wicked, nurse the wounded, feed the hungry, and motivate and inspire generations abandoned by society. They had to keep on dreaming of a world, not only better for themselves, but for generations to come-a world where character and ability matter, not color or gender. They survived so many broken promises, but found beauty in its remain, and made made sifinicant contributions to America.
I Am Woman celebrates the love, the sorrow, the tragedy and the triumph; a combination of humor, funk and pizzazz.
GUEST CURATOR:
Danielle Daniel is an actress, creative writer and master storyteller. Her storytelling programs and tour shows have been presented in Europe and the United States. She has worked in many schools, colleges, and community organizations using the art of storytelling to entertain, educate, motivate and empower people of all ages. Danielle believes our stories are healing; we should treasure and collect them for our future generations. Her workshops and artist residencies are designed to help students find and develop their own creative voice and style.
