The Brunswick Hotel and Tavern continues its series of Tavern events with a Johnnie Walker Tasting, Sunday, April 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. The tasting will highlight four spirits, each paired with a dish from Chef David Pendexter designed to enhance the flavors of the whisky. Tickets to the event are $60 per person, including tax, gratuity, fees, and food and drink pairings.
The tasting begins with the Johnnie Walker Double Black, a blend known for its spice and smokiness, paired with smoked tomato bisque. The Rye Cask Finish is next. Aged in oak barrels that add to its familiar vanilla notes and finished in rye casks for a hint of spice, it is the perfect accompaniment to the Taverns pairing of grilled andouille sausage kebab. For the third pairing, with notes of chocolate and espresso, the rarely available Green Label is a rich, full spirit and will be matched with seafood shepherds pie. The tasting ends on a sweet note, pairing the Taverns house creme brulee with Johnnie Walker Blue Label, one of the most expensive blended Scotches on the market, known for its flavors of butter roasted nuts, dates, and delicate brown spices.
Throughout the tasting, Johnnie Walker ambassadors will be on hand to walk guests through the spirits, introducing each one and discussing history, tasting notes, and how each pairing was developed.
