Indigenous Knowledge Conference
We welcome you to join us for a stimulating day of presentations to learn more about issues affecting the indigenous immigrant community, including a continental breakfast and a full course home made indigenous lunch.

We are excited to have key note speaker Luz María de la Torre Amaguana,an Otovalo Kichwa woman from Ecuador. She is an academician whose research, writing, and teaching are informed by her unique perspective as an Indigenous woman. She currently teaches at UCLA and has consulted for UNICEF, UNESCO, the United Nations, and other international organizations; and served in an advisory capacity to Ecuadors Minister of Exterior Affairs. In addition, she was named president of the National Council of Indigenous Ecuadorian Women.

Our conference will close with Neftali Duran, who was born and raised in Oaxaca, Mexico, and moved to West Los Angeles in 1997, where he developed a deeper interest and appreciation for Oaxacan food and culture. After 7 years he relocated to Western Massachusetts where he now lives. In 2014,  Duran was named the Smithsonian National Museum of the American IndiansNative Chef of the Year.  He was also an featured speaker for the Smithsonians 2015 Food History weekend.

During the event participants will have a choice of workshops to attend based on interests ranging from labor issues, politics, language, mental health, and medicine.
