Modern Renaissance X 2016 presents "Action"
On Sunday, March 20, 2016 at 3:00 P.M. Modern Renaissance X will return to the beautiful F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre with an afternoon of performance, protest and awareness. Featured artist groups are Zaman Dance Theatre Collective, Nikki Manx Dance Project, The Well Performance Project and Solo Danza. The event will include multimedia performances and will end with a dance theatre work honoring Women's History Month.




Zaman Dance Theatre Collective
"Femoirs" Honoring Women's History Month
Artistic Director: Zakiya Atkinson


A diversified blend of performance and artistry- the collaborative of artists are committed to a diverse, humanistic, and globally astute presentation of art; through movement, theatrical, and supporting art forms. Zaman Dance Theatre Collective is comprised of dancers, actors, vocalists and performance poets currently residing in New Jersey and New York . Individually and collectively the artists have performed and been commissioned throughout the USA, Europe, Canada, the Caribbean and the continent of Africa.

Our philosophical premise is "transformative art" with a mission to foster social growth through narrative performance.  In addition to performing ZDTC artists' have been employed to use their artistry to educate youth,  adolescents and adults in various settings.







Nikki Manx Dance Project

The goal of Nikki Manx Dance Project is to share socially conscious dance that makes people question, and think about important concepts of the human experience. The company upholds their mission of representing dance as a necessity to the New Jersey community, where we strive to enliven the passion surrounding important social issues. This enables our community to question thought-provoking aspects brought to the forefront through innovative movement, text, music, projected media, and live art.

In accordance with NMDP's movement, which is driven by a uniquely theatrical and gestural vocabulary, we hope to inspire progressive change in the economic, political, and social infrastructure of our society








The Well Performance Project

The Well Performance Project is a pre-professional repertory company blending African, modern, ballet, and jazz-funk dance styles, while seeking the input of dancers, musicians, and performance artists who want to work collaboratively to explore innovative concepts to present in a concert format.

The Well Performance Project seeks to provide company members with opportunities to perform and to develop as artists, and to present audiences with accessible entertainment exploring unique points of view. Young and mature artists are given an opportunity to explore and develop their craft on stage, in workshops and in collaboration with musicians, vocalist, visual artists, writers and composers. We provide accessible dance art to the community and to young audiences.







Solo Danza
"Swanky Sexy Beast"

Solo Danza's mission is to demonstrate reflection and invention in all productions that translate the human experience into dance. Our ambition is to provide insight into the ever-evolving form that is modern dance.

To be a representative for the art of dance, Solo Danza is comprised of dance educators whos common goal is to inform and inspire the aspiring dancers and art enthusiasts of tomorrow. Solo Danza furthers the appreciation and comprehension of dance as a dynamic and expressive art form that both engages and builds community.
