DANCE STATS

DANCE STATS is an exploration of how we watch, listen to, and interpret dance in performance. A "dance experiment" is created using statistical experimental design -- audiences see sixteen to thirty-two one-minute contemporary dance pieces, vote on how much they like each piece, and together with the performers, determine which choreographic elements that particular audience responds to. What did that audience like? Lots of technical unison movement? Unusual music? Were going to find out!

Every night is different, because every audience is different! Every night presents an opportunity for artists to learn more about audienceswhat they see in the work, what they respond to in choreography, and how they interpret a quick sixty seconds of movement. Data and statistics are a part of our lives more than they have ever been. We're taking a statistician's approach to creating (and watching) dance. Audiences get to directly participate in the dance-making process in a way that's never been done before.
