Cabaret at the Workshop: Connye Florance, A Legacy of Melodies
Vocalist Connye Florance headlines the next installment of the NJW's new Cabaret at the Workshop series, with a program entitled A Legacy of Melodies.
A masterful performer with a voice that has been called "velvet and wine," Connye Florance shines a light on America's jazz heritage with A Legacy of Melodies. Connye shares her lifelong relationship with jazz, her personal musical heritage, and a flair for poetic lyric as story. Her audience discovers that this rich legacy, rooted deep in African American culture, is planted in their own lives as a universal inheritance for all.
Connye Florance has gained international attention for her music with jazz fans and adult contemporary listeners alike - from nightclub and theater performances on and off Broadway -to headline and featured appearances at area jazz festivals. She was Jazz Discovery's "Vocalist of the Year" in 2000, just after her 1999 independent release, Turn My Heart, won a Nashville Grammy nomination for Album of the Year.
The Cabaret at the Workshop series made its debut in the summer of 2015 as the Jazz Workshop's newest offering, a performance series showcasing the art of cabaret and drawing on the Workshop's rich vocal offerings devoted to the American Popular Song.
