What Brings Me To This Place
RE|dance group, established in 2009 by Lucy Riner and Michael Estanich, is a Chicago based contemporary dance theatre company.
For its 7th Chicago Season, the company will premiere Lucy Riner's new evening length work, What Brings Me To This Place at Hamlin Park Field House March 24-25 and March 31-April 1.
What Brings Me To This Place, in its essence, is a coming of age research project. It is the opportunity to go back in time and understand what Riner's initial inclinations towards moving were. It explores Riner's age and sexuality as a dancer in her 40's. Reconnecting to free-form trance dancing as a way to develop a new movement vocabulary, Riner extracts potent moments and feelings from this meditative trance state as the foundation for the work. The club dancing is then manipulated, constructed, and designed for the concert stage. The production of this work translates the primal parts of this communal dance practice into an experience that draws audience members into the moment.
RE|dance group will also host two contemporary dance companies from other cities as part of an effort to support touring opportunities for emerging dance artists.
March 24-25 will feature Take Root from Detroit, MI. Take Root creates dances and multi-media art projects that connect with communities and broadens the artistic and intellectual scope of all people through dance and movement.
March 31-April 1 will feature JESSICA KONDRATH | THE MOVEMENT from Los Angeles, CA. The mission of JESSICA KONDRATH | THE MOVEMENT is to explore the intimate connection between movement and the musical score--to craft a visual re-presentation of the score so that the audience may experience the music visually as well as aurally.
