Gumbo Tales: Finding my Place at the New Orleans Table by Sara Roahen is a memoir of the author's move to New Orleans to be a food critic in a place and cuisine she knew almost nothing about. Follow her awakening of Southern Food sensibilities as she at first dubiously, later enthusiastically cooks and eats and learns the ways of the South. Roahen introduces readers to New Orleans' well-known signaturesgumbo, po-boys, red beans and riceand its lesser-known gems: the pho of its Vietnamese immigrants, the braciolone of its Sicilians, and the ya-ka-mein of its street culture.
