Ionesco Speaks to Studs Terkel - RHINOFEST 2016
...Despite assorted ridiculous obstacles including the sometimes fumbling translation of Ionesco's terrified 18 year old daughter Marie-France whose high school English was spontaneously put to the test during an unexpected and perhaps unwelcome visit to Ionesco's Parisian apartment in the summer of 1962 in which language is mangled, manners and good journalism are tossed out the window and rampant misunderstanding prevails, revealing, perhaps unwittingly or perhaps not, something of the timeless spirit of The Theater of the Absurd and in particular Ionesco's play Rhinoceros. Terkel's taped conversation with Ionesco will be played, along with a little historic context and commentary from Rhinoceros Festival artists.
