THE RENT PARTY PROLOGUE
A Staged-reading of a one-act play

It's 1968. It is a time when our country is wrestling with a tectonic shift in its core values, when the issues of civil rights, women's rights and gay rights are the battlefront for a national crisis of conscience. Against this background, we will connect the big stage of world history to the small stage of one house in one neighborhood.

Julia and her husband Hamp have turned their house the center of their community  hosting everything from free lunch and education programs to organizing meetings. 3382 River Street is a hive of activity. The killing of an unarmed man 18 months ago spurred Hamp to launch a program of police surveillance, community policing and the full exercise of his second amendment rights. A year ago, Hamp was stopped by the police in legal possession of a gun but arrested on a false charge. Hamp's legal fees have taken a toll on the family's finances. Julia has tried to keep things afloat but has fallen behind on the mortgage and taxes. Julia and Hamp decide a Rent Party is the way to support his legal defense.

Come meet the Harris Family, their family and friends.  Join us for the reading, some refershments and the music of 1968.

THE RENT PARTY PROLOGUE is one-act play, which introduces the main themes and characters of a larger immersive work called THE RENT PARTY PROJECT which we hope to present in 2016.
