Go Wild! A Celebration in Support of Restoring Maine's Wild Atlantic Salmon
Please join the Downeast Salmon Federation (DSF) in celebrating its mission to restore Maine's wild Atlantic salmon. Dwayne Shaw, DSF's Director, will describe the essential work DSF is doing, and artist, Susie O'Keeffe, will present a multimedia piece on the wild salmon of Southeast Alaska's ancient forests. The evening will include free drinks and appetizers.
Dwayne will inspire us to envision a future where Maine's rivers again flow with wild Atlantic salmon. He will tell us how DSF - and thousands of other committed people - are fighting to restore this critically endangered species to Maine's rivers east of the Penobscot.
Susie will take us on a journey across the country, and into the Tongass National Forest. Her work, entitled: Rekindling the Exchange of Wild Affection, is described by local conservationist, Buck O'Herin, as "a story with stunning wildlife images that reminds us the essence of our being and fabric of our lives is contained in wildness. She asks us to consider what it is to be kin with Earth's creatures...this is an illuminating presentation and offers us a taste of non-dual reality. Don't miss it!"
Restoring native wild fish populations, as well as the rivers, wetlands and ecosystems these species need to thrive, is a courageous vision that evokes the words of Theodore Roosevelt: Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.
