RITES: Celebrating 15 Years of Earth Moving Performance
Join us for an evening of performances of some of LAVA's greatest hits over the past 15 years, plus a glimpse into the feminist future of dance as interpreted by LAVA. You don't want to miss this!
RITES is about LAVA's rite of passage into a new phase of our development and a benefit to support the creation of new work by LAVA. Directed by Sarah East Johnson, and created in collaboration with the company, with music by Toshi Reagon, DJ TIkka Masala, The Butchies, and Lee Free, we invite you to join with us to honor this moment in our development, a rite of passage that we are very proud to have arrived at. For 15 years we have been making dances that push the boundaries of gender expectations and show us what it looks like to be strong, supportive, enchanting, intelligent, and courageous. Our unique movement language of dance, acrobatics, wrestling, and social dance embodies a future vision of equality, balance, connection, and support.
