Green Roofs Seminar - Inspiration From Abroad, Action in Seattle
In 2004 and 2005 International Sustainable Solutions brought over 100 Northwest architects, real estate developers, city officials and others to the Scandinavian Green Roof Institute in Malmo, Sweden to learn about the benefits of low impact, affordable green roofs.  In order for more people to hear about the work of the Institute, ISS is bringing Louise Lundberg, the Superintendent of the Institute, to Seattle.  She will be joined by trip participants who came back home and have since worked toward furthering the use of green roofs here.

Program
9:30 to 10:15 - Louise Lundberg on the work of the Scandinavian Green Roof Institute.

10:30 to 11:00 - David Gold, a building owner who saw inexpensive, low impact green roofs in Malmo, and has since developed a modular, pre-planted green roof system using recycled carpet.

11:15 to 11:45 - Drew Gangnes, Director of Civil Engineering for Magnusson Klemencic, was so impressed with the research being done at the SGRI that, in collaboration with four prominent Seattle area building owners, he started his own research "institute" using donated roofs in downtown Seattle. He will be presenting his findings to date.

12:00 to 3:00 - A map will be provided of downtown rooftops where you can go at your own pace to visit several green roof test plots and see a demonstration of the modular green roof system which uses recycled carpet.

Special thanks to the City of Seattle Department of Planning and Development, Office of Sustainability and Environment, and Seattle Public Utilities for co-sponsoring this event.
