2 Plays, 1 Conversation
For this year's "2 Plays, 1 Conversation", we intimately explore two plays that share a common theme of youthful passion. We present world premiere adaptations of both William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet & Frank Wedekind's Spring's Awakening.
As stories of abstinence education, teen suicide, school shootings, and gang violence permeate our 21st-century consciousness, these plays - from the 16th and 19th centuries, respectively - offer evidence of how much remains constant in a world that seems to be careening uncontrollably forward. These world premiere adaptations examine how playwrights from distinctly different periods come into intensely passionate contact with today's conflicting attitudes toward love, lust, and sexuality.
To help our audience experience and explore both, we have alternating readings of each play over two consecutive weekends, Friday - Sunday, April 13 -15 and April 20 - 22. All readings are at 7pm. Each reading has a talkback afterwards with New York scholars.
Tickets are $12 each for 1 play. Tickets are $20 each for 2 play combination bundles.
