Tonight she releases her new 14 song album "Strings of Light" at The Lizard Lounge. Abbie Barrett and The Last Date zero in on catchy pop and unconventional arrangements squarely centered around her smoky voice. Drawing from their vast catalog of original songs and cherry-picked covers, Andrea & Marc touch all bases from soul to country to blues and beyond.
EMILY GROGAN
From composing a song for a Sony movie to starring in the 13 episode prime time Canadian TV series "Rocker Moms" to being nominated for a Boston Music Award for best female vocalist to playing several instruments in several bands, Emily Grogan is a full spectrum musician. A classically trained pianist, punk rock drummer (Black Madonna,Screaming Venus), reggae and blues saxophonist (Yesai, Andrea Gillis' Red Chord), hard rock guitarist (Hand of The Tribe) and guitarist/singer songwriter (Emily Grogan Band and Angeline), she's performed both nationally and internationally and has written and released over 40 songs to critical acclaim. As the Boston Herald is quoted saying: "Emily Grogan may well turn out to be the next big thing out of Boston's music scene" She releases her new 14 song album "Strings of Light" in October 2015
ABBIE BARRETT AND THE LAST DATE
In 2008, Barrett released her debut album, Dying Day, which "Performing Songwriter" magazine declared "a stellar first release." The Noise calls Barrett "a bright light among others of her genre...evident through compelling vocals, ever-changing chord progressions, and spontaneous melodies." With no formal musical education, Barrett has been able to craft unique, unconventional arrangements that highlight her smoky voice. Her band, The Last Date, does a wonderful job bringing her vision to the live stage, offering everything from honky-tonk country rock to ambient, brooding anthems. She credits Neil Young, Radiohead, and Fiona Apple as her main influences. Abbie Barrett & The Last Date are currently working on The Triples, a series of three-song EPs.
MARC PINANSKY AND ANDREA GILLIS
People like to bestow any number of phrases upon Andrea Gillis & Marc Pinansky - Power couple, Rock Royalty, but in spite of their legacies with The Andrea Gillis Band and Township, they have made a name for themselves over recent years as an inseparable duo more akin to Kenny & Dolly and Donny & Roberta. Drawing from their vast catalog of original songs and cherry-picked covers, Andrea & Marc touch all bases from soul to country to blues and beyond. Good music, stripped down, in harmony and delivered with the humor and charm that make their intimate sets feel timeless and classic.
