PAINTING CHURCHES by Tina Howe

PAINTING CHURCHES brings home Maggie Church, a successful New York portrait artist, to Boston to help her parents pack up their Beacon Hill home and move to a cottage on Cape Cod. Fanny and Gardner Church are well-off Bostonians (a last remnant of the Brahmin line), but Gardner, a Poet Laureate, is growing worse with Alzheimer's and Fanny is unraveling trying to take care of him. A delicate situation. Add to that Maggie's own issues she's been running away from, and Tina Howe paints a funny, quirky, yet sensitive portrait of the Churches -- if they would only sit still long enough as subjects.
