Colour Matters: A Secret History of Colour at Tate Modern
In late 19th century France, the symbolist artist Gustave Moreau wrote 'you must think through colour, have imagination in it. If you don't have imagination, your colour will never be beautiful...'. Later Matisse claimed that color could only achieve its full potential if it became independent from the objects it depicted. On this Art Shot, we'll explore the secret history of colour and learn how it is a radical means of expression it is own right. We'll look at works by the Fauves, Matisse, Kandinsky, Rothko and much more.
