Le Grand Dance Collaborative

Always a place where everyone feels welcome to dance, The Dance Complex commits to a series of community workshops this season. The first core series is a the Le Grand Dance Collaborative. The movement class meets on most Saturdays this fall 3:30 - 5:00p beginning September 12. Updated info can be found at dancecomplex.org.

Over several weeks through early December, the participants in the class series will learn about different movement styles. Beginning September 12, the class will learn a flash mob version of "Thriller" with the option of performing on Halloween at a dance party at The Dance Complex. Anyone joining will have the choice just to have a great movement experience, with no commitment to performance.

All are welcome to the classes, regardless of previous dance experience or financial situation. Those with the means to contribute more than the drop-in or series class fee are encouraged to do so to help fund scholarships for fellow dancers. The intent of LGDC is to create opportunities for anyone to experience the physicality, the expression and art-forms within dance, in an environment that allows engagement for the self and with others. The goal is to dance and also enjoy the great by-products of dancing including self awareness, social interaction and community building.

Le Grand Dance Collaborative community class series began as the result of several individuals from all walks of all life - from all areas of Boston and beyond, young and old, those who have studied some dance and some totally new to it - meeting for a project presented by The Celebrity Series of Boston last year. Once the project, Le Grand Continental choreographed by Montreal's Sylvain Emard, completed its performances, many of the participants said, "What's next?" These classes at The Dance Complex continue a legacy of dance, participation and engagement.
