In an era when the moments of our lives are digitally divided, tele-connectivity is constant, and our closest neighbors are utter strangers, Syzygy resists the trend by turning to an old tradition of live acrobatic storytelling and close collaboration. The group takes inspiration widely, from the present state of dysfunction, to the ancient traditions of circus and clowning, to the humble innovation of Meghalayan Khasi villagers, who weave walkways over torrential rivers from the roots of living fig trees.
The artists combine their sensational acrobatic skills, canny physical humor, idiosyncratic dance choreography and authentic theatrical style on stage with a curious scenography both natural and man-made.
The result is a whimsical world in which the indoor and outdoor spheres meet. In this universe, time is inexorably running out, inanimate objects take on life, and acrobats face mortal risk together.
