Bard Fest: Timon of Athens
CRP presents Shakespeare's rarely done classic this October as part of the inaugural Bard Fest Shakespeare Festival.
Bard Fest is a 3-weekend Shakespeare Festival located in the charming Carmel Arts District of Indianapolis. This year, Bard Fest will celebrate it's first year by bringing together 3 of Indy's favorite local theatre companies: CRP, First Folio, and Garfield Shakespeare Co. Each unique company will present one of Shakespeare's classics in the intimate Studio 15 Theatre in Carmel. Through the generous sponsorship of the Carmel Theatre Company, Bard Fest will provide paying work for some of Indy's greatest Shakespeare talents. Bard Fest will also feature CRP's Shakespeare Trivia Night's at Woody's Pub, thanks to our friends at Indy's Live Trivia. Other acts and events include, Improv Comedy, Music, Magic, and Fringe Encore acts.
ABOUT CRP'S TIMON: Timon is so rare, we don't even believe Shakespeare himself saw it produced...shoot we don't even think he finished it. That's where we came in. As a new works theatre, CRP aims to produce unique, quality work of new stories, so an adaptation of a show seen by so few was right up our ally. Artistic Director, Casey Ross will both adapt and direct alongside company Managing Director, Taylor Cox, who will AD the production. CRP brings their bold and biting small-cast adaptation of the Bard's dark fable to the stage this October. Ten actors take on this Shakespearean oddity, giving brave new life to this disturbingly universal tale of man's greed and betrayal, marking the first professional production of Timon ever in the greater Indianapolis area. CRP's Timon stars some of Indy's finest talents and Shakespeare scholars and promises to be among some of the most memorable productions of Timon of Athens, yet. Timon will take place in Carmel's intimate Studio 15, bringing you close to the philosophical action and debate. Truly, This historic production is not to be missed.
In Athens, Anywhere, flattery can get you...everywhere: In a time of hasty economic change, the city of Athens has fallen into the clutches of frivolous young money, resting in the hands of trust-fund babies and despondent 'hipsters.' When Timon, a free-giving party-host, political-backer and arts patron falls on hard times--he does what any beloved socialite would do; he calls on his friends for help, only to find the very 'friends' he is calling on are turning a deaf ear. In the face of his now looming debt and embarrassing betrayal, Timon transforms from naive philanthropist into one of the most viscous misanthropes of Shakespeare's stage. Join us for a bold new telling of Shakespeare darkly poignant fable. This October, "feast won" is indeed "fast lost..."
CRP's Timon is a unique Athens, all its own, blending elements of Gatsby era flare with modern harshness. CRP is thrilled to announce that Angel Burlesque's Minnie Ryder will be joining the cast and all bringing the exciting art of burlesque to Timon's lavish estate.
