The powerful tales of seven diverse African-American women are woven together in Ntozake Shange's Obie Award-winning landmark play. A breakthrough portrayal of black women's experiences in America, the story combines music, poetry and dance to celebrate their unique culture while painting a poignant portrait of their terrible struggles.
From it's inception in California in 1974 to its highly acclaimed critical success at Joseph Papp's Public Theater and on Broadway, for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf has excited, inspired, and transformed audiences all over the country. First published in 1975, it was praised by the New Yorker for "encompassingevery feeling and experience a woman has ever had."
