Off Flavor Tasting at Great Raft Brewing
Train Your Senses to Recognize the Most Common Flaws in Beer
Many of the beers we drink contain off flavors, but can you correctly identify them? The best beer tasters in the world do not contain a special "beer tasting gene" in their DNA. They practice their craft by spiking beers and training their palates to recognize certain flavors. Over time they hone their senses to pick up even the slightest trace of an ingredient.
And that's what we're going to do in this class.
We will discuss and sample six off-flavors most commonly found in beer -- three that result from brewing and three that result from handling. The six flavors are: diacetyl, DMS, acetaldehyde, skunky, oxidized and infection.
To get the most out of the class, we recommend refraining from cigarettes, coffee, or any flavored drinks one hour prior to the event.
After the sampling, enjoy a fresh pint of your choice in the tasting room.
