Social Voyeurs, the 80's buzz band from Philadelphia that won StarSearch, was the pride of State College and Chestnut Hill/Mt. Airy in Philadelphia, and has opened for the Hooters multiple times (once in front of 20,000 people). Founding members include Bob Sobol on keyboards and vocals, Bob Nolen on drums, Keith Atkinson on guitar and vocals and Mark Newman on bass and vocals.
Social Voyeurs moved to Philadelphia and played the Cabaret clubs, Grendel's Lair, J.C. Dobbs, the Depot and the Khyber Pass. The band went on to a winning performance on StarSearch and recorded its EP, "The Boy and the Beat," at the Powerhouse Studios in Camden. Social Voyeurs had airplay on such local radio stations as WYSP and WMMR. The band had a loyal fan base centered in the Chestnut Hill / Mount Airy section of Philadelphia, where rehearsals were based at the infamous "Black Rose Manor."
DEREK FORBES
Derek Forbes is a world renowned bassist, vocalist, and sometime guitarist. He is best known for defining the unmistakable early sound of Scottish rock band Simple Minds, providing those spine-rattling bass riffs which formed the core of the band's first 7 albums. This includes 1985's Once Upon a Time featuring "Don't You (Forget About Me)" which reached #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 & Top Rock Tracks. Derek holds prestigious titles such as Scotland's Greatest Ever Bassist, Best Bass Player in the UK, Best Bass Player in the World, and Best International Bass Player.
Continuing to perform with Simple Minds over the years here and there, Derek also performed with the bands Propaganda, Oblivion Dust, Fourgoodmen, and XSM.
Derek will be embarking on a U.S. Tour as a Shore Bets feature attraction. His band will be a US-UK hybrid of ALL Stars with major credibility including John McNutt (Spear of Destiny UK Tour, Michael Allman Tour, The Keltic Rock Warrior) and Danny Beissel (American Vinyl & Foster Child), Mark Iezzi (Deb Callahan), and Timothy McKinstry (Rogue, Michael Allman Tour).
We will present a retrospective of Derek's career featuring songs from Peter Gabriel, Iggy Pop, Bowie, Tears for Fears, Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, and the aforementioned Simple Minds and Propaganda. Derek has collaborated with all of these luminaries and brings passion to every song.
John McNutt, Philadelphia musician, has performed with Derek Forbes for years, starting in the 90s with the Kirk Brandon (Spear of Destiny) UK tour. John & Derek recorded in Scotland together and John performed with Simple Minds at the John Lovitz Theater (Universal Studios Los Angeles) in 2011. John recently returned from Michael Allman's East Coast Tour.
