Kids Foray with Gabriel

Join Girdwood local up and coming junior mycologist Gabriel on a mushroom hunt to "Follow the rainbow and find lots of cool mushrooms!". The focus of this mushroom hunt is to find all that is out there and celebrate our local fungal biodiversity! Parents welcome (no need to register, just register the kids- 10 kids max, ages 5-11).

When Gabriel was three years old, his dad brought him to the Girdwood Fungus Fair to help sell raffle tickets. While his dad was distracted, Gabriel was riveted by the no-exactly-age-appropriate move "Know your Mushrooms" and an obsession was born. By the following year he was collecting mushroom books despite not being able to read yet, and refusing to go to sleep without "Mushrooms Demystified"

Disregarding expert advice to the contrary, Gabriel thinks mushrooms are less tasty even than most vegetables and he prefers hunting and identifying them to actually eating the things (except for morels). Gabriel's life highlights include finding his first morels at age 8 and helping land a halibut last year that was so big it had to be shot.
