The Community NYC presents "Becky Shaw" by Gina Gionfriddo.
The Community NYC is proud to present their first theatrical show as a company - "Becky Shaw" by Gina Gionfriddo, directed by Elena Kritter, and featuring graduates of The William Esper Studio.

Character/Actor:

Max Garrett - Carson Alexander
Suzanna Slater - Jac Grady
Susan Slater - S. Quincy Beard
Andrew Porter - Alec Wirth
Becky Shaw - Carly Forde

Synopsis:

"Remember in Greek Mythology... The gods judge you by how well you treat strangers who come to your door...What is that called?"

Matriarch Susan Slater and grad student Suzanna Slater adjust to their new middle class life after the death of the financially exhausted family patriarch. Max Garret comes to save his adopted mother and best friend, but Susan refuses his offer, and Suzanna is too consumed in grief to be saved.

8 months later, newlyweds Suzanna and Andrew set up Max on a blind date with Andrew's coworker, the mysterious and unassuming Becky Shaw.

After a date gone horribly awry, Becky Shaw latches on to these strangers, and won't let go until all is restored, and all relationship boundaries are forever changed.

Becky Shaw is a dark comedy about class and family. This play asks us:

Who is allowed in our family circle, and who is not?
What responsibility do we have to the strangers who show up on our doorstep?
What makes a person "good"?
Where do our family boundaries begin and end?
When do you put your needs first in a relationship?
Why do we choose the comforting lie over the harsh truth?
How do we speak to the people we love?
And what are we willing to do or destroy, in order to get where we want to be?

"See, you are why civilization of going to end. You would rather choose a disgusting reality over a beautiful fiction."
