Equally comfortable singing a Cole Porter standard or a left-of-center pop/rock anecdote, vocalist Jacqui Naylor is also making a name for herself with her dynamic original material. Naylor's new show pays tribute to the hipsters and hepcats of songwriting who have inspired her, from Johnny Mercer and Bob Dorough to Herbie Hancock and Amy Winehouse. Far from a straight-laced jazz purist, Naylor has made the mixing of genres and eras her stock-in-trade, gaining fans and notoriety for singing the lyrics and melody of jazz standards over the grooves of well-known pop and rock songs and vice versa. 2013 saw the release of Dead Divas Society, a collection of interpretations of songs by Peggy Lee, Nina Simone, Amy Winehouse and others.
