Do you dash through the day holding your breath?
I don't do it on purpose, obviously, but I'm basically depriving myself of oxygen the whole day.
Kelly took me to my my first kundalini class last week and it was filled with revelations. For example, the instructor asked us to do a 60 second meditation with simple breath work inhale for 20 seconds, hold the breath as you send it to the belly and spine for 20 seconds, exhale for 20 seconds. Newcomers were encouraged to try 10 or fewer seconds each.
Piece of cake, right?
Humor me and try it. Then tell me I'm not alone here.
Can you inhale for 10 seconds?! After 5, I ran out of space. Where exactly can the air go? I tried to send my breath to my belly and spine, and exhaled prematurely. So I started over again and found myself gasping for air.
I don't know how to breathe.
There I was, looking for the keys to serenity and enlightenment while choking. I'm looking forward to getting this breathing thing worked out. I know that it's intimately tied to energy blockages. Stuck is bad and flow is good. Who doesn't need help to get our energy moving?

Patricia Hart, LCSW, aka Swaranpal, is a KRI Certified Kundalini Yoga Teacher and a certified social worker who has been working with families and children for over 20 years. Patricia has studied numerous forms of yoga including Hatha, Vinyasa, and Kundalini. She assists world renowned teachers Gurmukh, Gurushabd, and Guru Dharam in teacher training level one, Khalsa Way Prenatal Yoga, and Kundalini Yoga Therapy. Patricia specializes in yoga for children, pregnancy, fertility, addictions. She has studied various forms of energy work including Kundalini Yoga Therapy, which employes the understanding of the Chinese meridian systems, Ayurveda, numerology, kundalini and the esoteric. She has studied Tibetan Shamanic Practices, Kabbalah, and Sound Healing. Patricia is available for one on one and group sessions. She teaches at Golden Bridge Yoga in NYC.

A note about driving to Holmdel Corporate Plaza:
If you are traveling north and miss the entrance on Hwy 35, then turn right onto Union Ave and use the warehouse entrance. Follow the road to the front of the complex where there is ample parking. Don't go to the mall, even if GPS sends you there. The building is at the corner of 35 and Union Ave. There will be signage at the entrance.
