Hand Pumps for Haiti Benefit
The Idaho section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) endeavors to equip and train local plumbers to maintain the pumps that provide access to water wells in Les Anglais, Haiti. These actions would resolve issues with wells and pumps installed by aid agencies with good intentions during past relief efforts. Wells are drilled and pumps are installed, and then they are left to degenerate to a state of uselessness for lack of simple maintenance measures.
Join ASME for a presentation on what we learned from an exploratory trip to Haiti in the spring of 2011 and for information on what is planned for a return trip in December 2011, when we will deliver tools, spare parts, and training to local tradesmen.
