needtheater is committed to theater that functions as social dialogue. Through forging community partnerships, reaching out to historically underserved audiences, and collaborating across artistic disciplines, we focus on the experience of living and working in Los Angeles in the 21st century. During this past year alone, dozens of needtheater Artists have performed for thousands of people across the L.A. area in venues as diverse as REDCAT, the A+D Museum, and EdgeFest.
Naomi Wallace (Playwright)- Naomi Wallace is from Kentucky. BIRDY, an adaptation for the stage of William Wharton's novel, opened on the West End in London at the Comedy Theater in March 1997 and in Athens, Greece, at the same time. Wallace was a 1999 recipient of the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship, the grant popularly known as the genius award. Her other plays include ONE FLEA SPARE, SLAUGHTER CITY, IN THE HEART OF AMERICA, THE TRESTLE AT POPE LICK CREEK, and THE INLAND SEA.
