Soldier's Heart
Before heading off to war in Iraq, USMC Staff Sergeant Casey Johnson neatly organizes her life into a box of lists, envelopes and registration forms for her son's activities.
Nine months later, she returns psychologically paralyzed by PTSD, deeply haunted by the memories of what she had to do  and by what was done to her.

Playwright Tammy Ryan takes us through vivid re-enactments
of the Iraqi conflict, ending her drama on a hopeful note
even as she states that our Veterans deserve better.

IMPORTANT:  Please note that a live round of blank ammunition is fired during the performance.

The NY Times called it "fresh and forceful."

"Portrayals of soldiers wrecked by war date
to the ancient Greeks (see Aeschylus), but
Ms. Ryan adeptly reworks the time-tested
recipe from a woman's perspective to make
it seem fresh again

Briskly written in brief scenes that easily
flash back and forth.the subject of sexual
assault in the military gives the play weight
and merit. Ms. Ryan deftly layers critical
incidents that culminate in a forceful climax.

Frank, colloquial language delivers a strong sense of spontaneity."

   - Michael Sommers, The New York Times
